Newsletter Jan 2008 Webzine

Dear friends,

Sloveniana Webzine is one of the focal educational and cultural projects of the Institute for Slovenian Studies of Victoria Inc. In June 1998  the webzine was initiated by Aleksandra Ceferin as a resource for the cultural component of the Slovenian language curriculum in the Victorian state education system. It is a unique approach in integrating language and culture studies in multicultural Australia. The name Sloveniana was conceived by web designer Chiron Morpheus to indicate the focus of the publication –  to present cultural, natural and historical landscape of Slovenia.

In 2007 the webzine was redesigned and organized into categories by Morpheus of Zavod Neuropolis. The header image for the webzine is the portal of the Slovenian National Museum in Ljubljana with stylish sculptures of the four muses.  You can review all categories and the entry page of the webzine section by clicking on the header image or on the webzine icon above. For a view of all the articles in a given category, click on the CATEGORIES on the left side column.

The webzine is now linked to the gallery – Galeria Sloveniana, in particular to the section  Sloveniana Photolog. Selected albums provide the visual background for a number of webzine articles. For instance, the album Plečnik’s Ljubljana illustrates the article Jože Plečnik in Ljubljana, the album Pivka Valley provides the visual dimension to the article The jewel of Kras – Pivka valley. The photos are displayed with titles and short explanatory texts, and can be accessed by pointing the arrow with the mouse to the upper part of the picture frame.

Sloveniana Webzine features eight categories that reflect the range and scope of the articles. They are: cultural treasures, ethnographic heritage, myths and legends, natural heritage, notable Slovenes, Slovenian arts, Slovenian history, and Slovenian landmarks. A new extensive article – Terra cognita serves as an introduction to  Sloveniana Webzine and to Slovenian culture. The Sloveniana collection has  been extended by thirteen articles – on the Renaisssance composer Iacobus Gallus, Reformation luminary Primož Trubar, encyclopaedian Janez V Valvazor, the missionary Friderik Baraga, Slovenia in the 16th century, and series of articles on the Slovenian Impressionist school. All are displayed with images and some with full albums.

Enquiries for submission of articles are to be sent to Aleksandra Ceferin, the Chief Editor of Sloveniana webzine at Email: ISSV@thezaurus.com.

Dragi prijatelji!

Izbrani in prirejeni albumi nudijo vizualno ozadje člankov. Na primer, album Plečnik’s Ljubljana ponazarja članek Jože Plečnik v Ljubljani, album Pivka Valley podeljuje vizualno razsežnost članku o Pivški dolini in slovenskem krasu.

Zbirka člankov Sloveniana Webzine vključuje vrsto novih prispevkov in sicer – renesančni skladatelj Iacobus Gallus, reformacijski genij Primož Trubar, polymath Janez V Valvazor, Friderik Baraga misijonar Indijancem severne Amerike, Slovenija v 16. stoletju  in serija člankov o slovenski impresijonistični šoli. Vsi članki so ilustrirani, nekateri so opremljeni z albumom.

Kind Regards / z lepimi pozdravi,
Aleksandra Ceferin
